How Is Laser Cataract Surgery Done?

  • A camera/ultrasound device is placed above the eye to gather information about the cornea, cataract, and other structures

  • The customized information is then programed into the laser

  • This allows for creation of incisions in the cornea at an appropriate size, depth, and location

  • The laser can also open the capsule and soften the cataract for easier removal

  • Patients still need to have the cataract removed using an ultrasound probe to break the lens into pieces and suction them out.

Who are the Best Candidates for This Surgery?

  • Most patients receiving laser cataract surgery have astigmatism that needs to be corrected

  • Or patients are receiving a premium lens like a toric or a multifocal lens
